Neil: Hello, this is Real English from BBC Learning English, I’m Neil.

Helen: And I’m Helen. Hello!

Neil: In Real English, we look at words and phrases that you might not find in your dictionary.

Helen: 在我們今天的地道英語中，我們要學習一些當代英語中的新興詞彙和說法。

Neil: Today’s expression is one-hit wonder – one-hit wonder.

Helen: 這個短語是由三個單詞組成：one就是數字“一”，hit – H.I.T. 有達到、成功的意思，而wonder W.O.N.D.E.R. 有驚豔、奇蹟的意思。– one-hit wonder – 這三個詞放在一起又是什麼意思呢，Neil？

Neil: Well a one-hit wonder is a band or a singer who just have one big hit. They are only famous for one big song and they usually don’t have any other successful songs.

Helen: OK，one-hit-wonder 通常被用來形容某個樂隊或者歌手一曲成名之後卻再沒有能夠推出同樣好的作品，再沒創造出同樣的成功的現象。

Neil: Shall we play you some?

Helen: Oh go on then Neil – give us an example.

Neil: Well back in the 1960s – Ricky Valence was a one-hit wonder with his song Tell Laura I Love Her.

Helen: 在80年代的時候，歌手Robin Beck憑她的一首放在可口可樂廣告中的單曲First Time而一舉成名。
