一、 作名詞
1. 作用途解是可數名詞。 Can you find a use for these empty boxes? 你能給這些空盒子派上用場嗎? I need a tool with many uses. 我需要一件有多種用途的工具。
2. 作使用; 效用; 使用權解是不可數名詞。多用於以下的固定短語中。
1) (be) in use 正在使用。 The dictionary is in use. 詞典正被使用。
2) (be) of use有用處;起作用。 The cellphone is of great use. 手機很有用。
3) make (good / full ) use of (好好 / 充分)利用 We should make full use of every minute in order to learn English well. 爲了學好英語，我們應該充分利用每一分鐘。 此外，還有come into use(開始使用)，have the use of(有權使用)，There is no use doing sth. / It's no use doing sth. (做某事沒有用)等搭配。
二、 作動詞
1. 使用;運用。 As a student, you should learn how to use a dictionary. 作爲學生，你應該學會如何使用詞典。
2.與for或as連用，構成短語，意爲用來做......;爲了......而使用， use... as爲作爲......使用;用作......之意。
Bamboo can be used for carrying water. 竹子可以用來運水。
Modern cellphones are more than just phones-they are being used as cameras and radios, and to send e-mail or surf the Internet. 現代手機不僅僅是電話，它們也當作照相機和收音機使用，還可以發送電子郵件或上網。
3. use up用完;用光。 All the paper has been used up. 紙都用完了。
4. used to慣常。 used to後跟動詞不定式，used to do sth. 過去常常做某事，暗示現在已經不再做某事。 He used to be a quiet boy. 他過去是個安靜的男孩。
