Panda looks like a little bear. It has black and white fur. It lives only in China, so it is called the national treasure of China and protected by the law. We all see panda on TV or in the zoo. They look stupid and walk slowly, but they are lovely and everyone likes them. A panda is lucky animal. We Chinese like it, and people of the world like it, too. Now there are China’s pandas in many other countries, such as Japan and the USA… A panda isn’t a common animal, it is bridge of friendship.

熊貓看起來好像一隻小熊。它的皮毛是黑白相間。 它只居住在中國，因此，它是中國的國寶，受到國家法律的保護。 我們在電視上或在動物園裏能看到熊貓。他們看起來顯得很笨的樣子，走起來很緩慢，但很可愛，大家都很喜歡它們。 熊貓是個吉祥的動物。中國人民喜歡它，世界人民也喜歡它。現在許多國家都有中國的熊貓，如，日本、美國…… 熊貓不是一種普通的動物，而是一座友誼的橋樑。

Paddy

There was a small boy who had been given a little terrier for his very own, on which he bestowed the name of Paddy, and loved mightily. He was very saddened by the fact that he could not take his pet away with him on his holidays, which he was spending with some relatives in the country.

Whilst he was away Paddy's young life was cut short by an unfortunate adventure with a motor. The boy's mother feared he would take the news very hardly on his return,she broke it very gently,therefore, and was rather surprised that the little lad did not seem much perturbed. Later, however, she heard him weeping lustily in his bed. He was inarticulate with grief, but his brother explained that he was cryingabout Paddy.

But, said the mother, I told him about it this morning, and he did not seem to mind!

The brother explained, yes, but he thought you said Daddy.

帕蒂

從前有一個小男孩，他得到了一條完全屬於他自己的小獵狗。他給小狗取名帕蒂，對它寵愛萬分。他要到鄉下一些親戚家去度假，可又不能帶上他的寵物，爲此他很傷心。

他不在家的時候，帕蒂在一次不幸的車禍中失去了年輕的生命。男孩的母親怕他回家時聽到這個消息太難過;因此她相當小心地把這個消息透露給他，而頗爲 令人驚訝的是小夥子看起來並不怎麼在意。可是，後來她聽見他在牀上哭得死去活來。他傷心得說不出話來，但是他的哥哥解釋說他在爲帕蒂痛哭。

可是，這位母親說：我今天早晨告訴他了，他好像根本不在乎啊!

他哥哥解釋說：是的，可他以爲你說的是爸爸。

老馬識途

In the Spring and Autumn Period, Duke Huan of Qi led an army to attack a small state in the north.

春秋時代，齊桓公出徵攻打北方一個小國。

They went in spring when green grass covered the ground.

去的時候是春天，遍地綠草茵茵。

But when they came back it was ywhere was white with snow and the wind was troops lost their way.

回來的時候是冬天，白雪茫茫，狂風怒吼，於是齊桓公的隊伍迷失了方向。

While everybody was worrying, Guan Zhong, the duke's chief minister, suggested: 'An old horse may know the way.'

找不到回去的路，大家都很着急。這時，齊桓公的宰相管仲說：“可以利用老馬的經驗。”

So the duke ordered several old horse to be selected to lead the army. Finally, they found the way back home.

於是齊桓公派人挑選了幾匹老馬在前面引路，果然走出了迷谷，找到了回去的道路。

This idiom refers to the value of experience.

“老馬識途”這個成語用來比喻有經驗的人，熟悉情況，辦事效果好。
