經典民間故事：紀昌學射
Ji Chang learned archery from Fei Wei. Fei Wei did not teach Ji Chang the specific techniques of toxophily, instead, he asked Ji Chang to learn to stare at the target, without blinking.
Ji Chang spent two years on it, and managed not to blink, even if an awl is coming at his canthus. Fei Wei then asked Ji Chang to practice hi eyesight, and the goal was to magnify the distant small object so that they appeared as if they were nearby.
Ji Chang practiced diligently for three years, and finally a louse hanging on the window seemed to be as big as a wheel to him. Ji Chang stretched the bow and slit up the louse with an arrow easily, at the knowledge of which Fei Wei as very satisfied with the student.
紀昌向飛衛學射箭。飛衛也沒有傳授具體的射箭技巧，卻要求他必須學會盯住目標而眼睛不眨動。
紀昌花了兩年的功夫，練到即使有錐子向眼角刺來，也能不眨一下眼睛。飛衛又進一步要求紀昌練眼力，標準是將遠處體積較小的東西能清晰的放大，就像是在近處看到一樣。
紀昌苦練三年，終於能將懸掛在窗子上的獅子看成車輪般大。紀昌張開弓，一箭便輕而易舉的將獅子射穿。飛衛得之結果後，對這個徒弟極爲滿意。
經典民間故事：造父習御
Zao Fu been learning to drive from Tai Dou for three years, but Tai Dou did not tell him anything about driving, which only added to his respect for his teacher.
One day, Tai Dou told Zao Fu, "Learning to drive must begin with learning to walk, as long as you can walk as fast as I do, you can succeed in driving a carriage pulled by six horses." Tai Dou erected a line of stumps, and walked on them as flying, never falling down. In only three days, Zao Fu grasped this method, and soon afterwards mastered all the essential skills for driving.
造父跟泰豆學習駕車。三年間，泰豆從未告訴他一句有關駕車方法的話，但造父對師父卻更加恭敬。
一天，泰豆告訴造父：“學駕車必須先從走路學起，只要你走路趕得上我，就可以成功地駕馭六匹馬拉的車子。”泰豆豎起一排木樁，在上面快步如飛，卻從沒掉下來。三天功夫，造父就學會了這種方法，很快便掌握了駕車的全部要領。
經典民間故事：莊子釣魚
Zhuangzi was sitting by Pushui Rievr, fishing leisurely.
Chu Weiwang, king of the state of Chu, sent two ministers to come to persuade him accepting the position of Prime Minister.
Zhuangzi asked, "It is heard that a holy tortoise which has been dead for three thousand years is treated as the national treasure and put in the holy temple. So, ministers, do you think the tortoise would rather to live in the slush, pulling its tail; than to enjoy the afterlife honor?"
"We think it would rather to be alive!" the ministers answered. "Then, you could leave now. I prefer living freely." Zhuangzi said.
莊子悠閒地坐在濮水河邊釣魚。
楚威王派二位大臣遊說莊子，希望他接受楚國相國的職位。
莊子問道：“聽說貴國有隻神龜，已死三千年，楚王將它作爲鎮國之寶，珍藏在廟堂之中。兩位認爲這烏龜願意享有死後的尊榮還是寧肯拖着尾巴在爛泥裏活着?”
楚國使丞回答說：“我們認爲他願意活着!”莊子聽了這話，對二人說：“好了，兩位走吧。我也願意拖着尾巴在這爛泥中自由自在地活着。”
