My View on the “Campus Star” Contest
At an age of character and individuality being encouraged and demonstrated, we see various “stars” pop up—singing stars, dancing stars, movie stars and sport stars, etc. Many schools even hold contests to choose their “Campus Stars”. Although these activities make our cultural life in campus more colorful and varied, a lot of problems spring up at the same time.
First of all, these activities can result in the swelling of vanity in some students, making them become arrogant, or even feel superior to other students. Moreover, these activities can greatly distract the students from their study. In order to become a star, they will, without any doubt, spend a lot of time and energy on the preparation and competition. The focus of their academic life will be shifted, and even worse, they can become too enthusiastic about Extracurricular activities and hate the academic knowledge and skills they need to grasp for their future development.
On the whole, I think these various “Campus Star” contests should be controlled in the campus. After all, schools are different from any other social institutions. Extracurricular activities should be encouraged, but they should be helpful to the student's academic study and all-round development.

In order to choose correctly, therefore, one must be both realistic and self hermore, once having made a decision, one should seriously accept and pursue the path one has chosen, and strive towards the realization of one's goal with spirit.

I had always believed that men and women in our country were not only equal in social position but also in intelligence. But when I first entered the college, I found that some boy students seemed indeed to be more intelligent and much quicker at understanding than girl students. I felt somewhat inferior, and I began to doubt whether I could succeed. Are men and women really equal in intelligence?
I am often troubled by the question. Then I happened to got hold of a book about Madame Curie. I was deeply impressed by her strong will power. Madame Curie worked hard so she became a top student in her university. After graduation she became a well-known physicist and some years later she got the Nobel Prize. From then on, she became a great encouragement to me in my study. Where there is a will, there is a way. At last I became the top student in my class and got the first prize in the English and physics competitions. This made me fee certain that women are no less clever than men. Besides, I was also active in physical exercises. I joined the track and field team and took part in ping-pong competitions. I was really proud of myself for being the women's all-round champion in the sports meet of our college. This proved again that a girl can do just as well as a a matter of fact, many women in our country have proved that they can make just as great contributions to the four modernizations as men. For instance, Hua Yi, an expert of hovercrafts, and Xie Lijuan , the vice-mayoress of Shanghai are just two examples.
I firmly believe there will be more and more women writers, women scientists, and women enterprisers in our country. I hope I can become one of them in the near future.

When I was a ten-year-old girl, I was once asked to deliver a speech titled "A real Test in My Life". to talk before the whole class! Just imagine! That will be a “real test to me, then so terribly shy as to tremble at the mere thought of uttering any word with so many eyes set upon me.
I had no other choice, though. First was to draft the speech. This just a piece of cake to me; I was a good writer----something to pride myself in. the hard part lied with my oral presentation; to read from the paper was not allowed; I had to give the speech from my memory and in front of such a big audience! A real trial began when I stood on the platform, my mind blank and my legs trembling. Somewhere from that corner came some giggling or what. My eyes became dim and I vaguely sensed some cool dripping down my face. How much time had passed by, I didn't know. My audiences were still waiting, patiently and without signs of rushing me. Gradually found myself back, stammering out my speech. Finally I finished. After what seemed to be a hundred years, I found my audience applauding. I made it!
From then on, my fear for talking before an audience disappeared. Actually with my confidence building up, I now turn to be a great speaker. Looking back, I know the greatest obstacle on our way to success is our fear; overcome it and let our potential out, and we will make to our goals.
