努力

Is the determination to do something. It can be a physical effort or a mental effort.  It is also the result of the attempt of doing something. We put a lot of effort into preparing for the event. It took a great effort to build the house on time. There are many collocations for effort, here are some of the most widely used.

是做某事的決心。它可以是體力上的努力,也可以是精神上的努力。它也是嘗試做某事的結果。我們花了很多精力準備這次活動。按時建造這所房子花了很大的努力。有很多搭配的努力,這裏有一些最廣泛的使用。

1. Considerable effort

相當大的努力

Means that something was particularly or very hard. If something takes a considerable effort it is something that takes a lot more effort than usual.

意味着某件事特別或非常困難。如果某件事需要付出相當大的努力,那就是比平時付出更多的努力。

It takes a considerable effort to organize the hospital./He made a considerable effort to show that he was sorry.

組織醫院需要相當大的努力。/他非常努力地表示他很抱歉。

2. Hard Effort

努力

Also means that something is very difficult.

也意味着有些事情很難。

It will be too hard of an effort to do things your way. /Getting this done was a hard effort.

按你的方式做事太難了。/完成這項工作是一項艱鉅的工作。

3. Constant Effort

不懈努力

Means that the effort is ongoing. It doesn’t stop.

意味着努力還在繼續。它沒有停止。

It takes a constant effort to raise children. /I don’t have enough time to put in the constant effort that it will take to complete the task.

養育孩子需要不斷努力。/我沒有足夠的時間投入完成這項任務所需的持續努力。

4. Extra Effort

額外的努力

Means that a task will take or has taken more effort than normal or what was originally expected.

表示一項任務將要或已經付出比正常或最初預期更多的努力。

It will take an extra effort to cook dinner tonight. /It shouldn’t’ be a big deal, it won’t take any extra effort.

今晚做晚飯需要額外的努力。/沒什麼大不了的,不需要額外的努力。

5. Minimal Effort

最小的努力

Means that it takes very little work or effort to do something.

意味着做某事只需要很少的工作或努力。

I want to do something that will take minimal effort. /The effort that you put into your work was minimal.

我想做一些不費吹灰之力的事。/你在工作中付出的努力是微乎其微的。

6. Wasted Effort

白費力氣

Refers to something being done for no reason. That could be because the effort wasn’t needed, or it could be because the effort was made, but didn’t make a difference.

指無緣無故地做某事。這可能是因爲不需要付出努力,也可能是因爲付出了努力,但沒有起到作用。

All of the work we did, didn’t affect anything it was a wasted effort. /Some people believe deleting emails is a wasted effort, but I think it’s necessary.

7. Physical Effort

Means that the effort is physical and not mental. A physical effort takes strength.

Hiking up the mountain was such a physical effort. /What kind of physical effort will that take?

8. Mental Effort

腦力勞動

Refers to something that does not take physical strength, but intellectual strength. In other words it takes a lot of thinking to get a task accomplished.

指的是不需要體力,而是智力的東西。換句話說,完成一項任務需要很多思考。

Learning a language takes mental effort. /You won’t get far in school without putting in a lot of  mental effort.

學習一門語言需要腦力勞動。/如果你不花很多腦力勞動,你在學校就走不遠。

9. Amount of Effort

工作量

Refers to how much effort it takes to get something done. It speaks to how hard or easy something is. This phrase is often used to say that something took a lot of effort or to ask how much effort something took.

指完成某件事需要付出多少努力。它說明一件事有多難或多容易。這個短語通常用來表示某件事花了很多精力,或者問某件事花了多少精力。

It took an enormous amount of effort to finish on time. /What amount of effort do you think will be needed to get all of this done?

按時完成花了很大的力氣。/你認爲完成這一切需要多少努力?

10. Effort Needed/ Effort Demanded

所需努力/所需努力

Refers to how much it takes to get something done.

指完成某件事需要多少時間。

I don’t have the effort that is needed to continue to perform my job. /I see that there is a lot of needed effort to clean this house. /How much effort will be demanded of me? /My boss demanded so much effort that I decided to quit my job.

我沒有足夠的精力繼續工作。/我知道打掃這所房子需要很多努力。/需要我付出多少努力?/我的老闆要求我付出很大的努力,所以我決定辭職。

11. Required Effort or Effort Required

所需的努力

Refers to how much effort is necessary. If less effort is given then it will not be enough.

指需要付出多少努力。如果付出更少的努力,那就不夠了。

This is the necessary effort to finish the course. /There is a lot of effort required to graduate with this degree.

這是完成這門課程的必要努力。/要獲得這個學位,需要付出很多努力。

12. Effort taken

付出的努力

Refers to the amount of effort that has been taken to accomplish a task. In this case the effort has already been made.

指爲完成任務所付出的努力量。在這種情況下,已經作出了努力。

There was a lot of effort taken by a lot of people to get this done. /Some of the team members have taken very little effort to get the project done.

很多人爲此付出了很多努力。/有些團隊成員幾乎不費吹灰之力就完成了這個項目。

13. Make an Effort

盡力

Refers to trying to get something done. When someone makes an effort, they try to do something or they are being told to try to do something.

指試圖完成某事。當一個人努力的時候,他們試圖做一些事情,或者他們被告知要做一些事情。

Thank you for making so much effort. /You really need to make an effort.

謝謝你這麼努力。/你真的需要努力。

14. Spare no Effort

不遺餘力

Means to put in all the effort that is necessary. In this case one does not worry about trying too hard. This is the opposite of being lazy. Someone who is sparing no effort is working very hard.

意味着付出一切必要的努力。在這種情況下,你不必擔心太努力。這與懶惰相反。一個不遺餘力的人工作很努力。

I know this has to get done right away, I will spare no effort. /Wow, this is amazing you clearly spared no effort.
