weep 落淚
多用作書面語，指小聲或無聲地哭。側重於流淚這一事實。

sob 抽泣、嗚咽
指抽搐喘氣、或類似嘆息地低聲哭泣。漢語中常用鳴咽、抽噎、啜泣、哽咽等詞來表示。
She sobbed her heart out. 她哭得死去活來。
wail 嚎啕痛哭
指因憂愁悲傷等情感而連喊帶叫、連續不斷地大聲嚎哭。漢語中常用嚎啕、痛哭、哀泣、慟哭等詞來表示。
He wailed over his misfortunes. 他對自己的不幸嚎啕痛哭。
whimper 多指用悲痛的、斷斷續續的聲音哭泣。往往是由於失去保護或依靠而哭泣。它常同恐懼連在一起用。
A lost child is whimpering for his mother.迷路的孩子哭叫着找媽媽。
blubber 又哭又鬧
指又哭又鬧。使用這個詞的人往往對哭鬧者持嘲笑或輕蔑的態度，所以它多少帶有一點貶義。有時候出於幽默，也可用來強調不適當的大聲哭泣。
A child your age shouldn't sit about blubbering over a lost toy. 像你這麼大的孩子不應爲丟失了一個玩具而坐着又哭又鬧。
