北京時間4號下午，歐洲核研究組織（CERN）在新聞發佈會上宣佈了大型強子對撞機發現“上帝粒子”的實驗結果。“新發現的粒子與長期尋找的希格斯玻色子一致。”這次發現是一個里程碑式的成就。

To cheers and standing ovations, scientists at the world's biggest atom smasher claimed the discovery of a new subatomic particle on Wednesday, calling it "consistent" with the long-sought Higgs boson - popularly known as the "God particle" - that helps explain what gives all matter in the universe size and shape.
世界最大的原子破解機構（歐洲和研究組織）的科學家們週三宣佈他們發現了一種新的亞原子粒子，該粒子與長期尋找的希格斯波色子（別稱“上帝粒子”）一致。這次發現將有助於解釋爲什麼宇宙中的各類物質有形狀和大小，是一個值得人們歡呼慶賀的發現。
上面報道中的God particle就是上帝粒子，學名叫Higgs boson（希格斯玻色子），它是一種subatomic particlea（亞原子粒子），可以幫助解析爲何其它粒子會有質量。科學家們通過用Large Hadron Collider（大型強子對撞機）模擬big bang（宇宙大爆炸）來尋找“上帝粒子”，這種實驗方式還可以探究dark matter（暗物質）、antimatter（反物質）、以及宇宙形成等。
Particle是粒子的意思，是指能夠以自由狀態存在的最小物質組分，最早發現的粒子是electron（電子）和proton（質子）。Particle還可表示“極小量，極小的程度”等，例如：It doesn't make a particle of difference.（它不會產生任何影響）。
