It is 12:05 in the morning as I write this. It’s my birthday today and I can’t believe I officially turn 38 today. I still act and feel like I’m 18! I can’t believe how time flies. It seems like yesterday when I turned 23 and came to Shanghai with 200 yuan on a cold and rainy night. I can’t believe I survived and thrived in this big and exciting city.

I have never had a birthday celebration and it didn’t matter to me at all. In my generation, it seemed that parents didn’t celebrate their children’s birthdays.
