此語意指stop doing something,例如:It’s time to leave off work.(是歇工的時候了。)引申指“不再做(或用、穿），戒除（習慣）”,例如：It had stopped raining, so we left off raincoats.(雨停了, _因而我們脫了雨衣。) Theywouldnot leave off their wild habits. (他們不願改掉野蠻的習憤。）此語亦用作leave off doing something。
