他不窮，相反，他是個百萬富翁。On the contrary在此意爲“相反地”，表示前文所述內容有誤，接下來所說的纔是事實。此外，on the contrary也可指“恰恰相反”，用於否定對方的意見。聽個小對話："He just stayed at home."—"On the contrary, he went to a party." “他就待在家裏呢。”——“恰恰相反，他去參加派對了。” 表示“相反”時，我們還可以用contrary to或to the contrary，例如：I will go on with my work unless I get the order to the contrary. 我將繼續工作直到我得到相反的命令。如果你想說，壓根就不是這樣的，則可以用quite the contrary，意爲“完全相反，完全不同，根本不是”。

既然春天來了，你可以把這些皮大衣收起來了。Now that意爲“既然，由於”，我們也可以直接用now，表示事件A已發生，因此事件B可能或將會發生。since也可以表示“既然，由於”，但側重於引出理由或解釋。Put away意爲“把……收好，放好”，原句亦可表述爲：“You can put these fur coats away.”或“These fur coats can be put away in a closet.”此外，在非正式用語中，put away還可表示“把……關進監獄，把……送進精神病院”。舉個例子：
She went a bit odd and had to be put away. 她有點不正常，只好送進了瘋人院。
