《中國經濟週刊》週二的報道中，民政部社會福利和慈善事業促進司司長王振耀表示，今年民政部將統一高齡養老津貼制度，全國80歲以上的老年人可享受此津貼。

《中國經濟週刊》週二報道說，全國80歲以上的居民將享受統一的高齡津貼。政府此舉旨在結束各地區高齡津貼政策不一致的狀況。
在上面的報道中，old age allowance就是“高齡津貼”。高齡津貼是針對高齡老人發放的特別allowance（津貼），並不是pension（退休金/養老金）。一個人到了mandatory retirement age（法定退休年齡）就可以退休並享受nest egg（養老金）。我們把養老金領取者稱爲senior citizen，許多人的退休金都來自endowment insurance（養老保險金）。
Allowance一詞是“津貼，補貼”的意思，例如：a housing allowance（房補），a meal allowance（伙食補貼，餐補）。小孩的零用錢也用allowance表示。Allowance還可以表示“折價，折扣”。例如：a trade-in allowance（以舊換新交易中的折價）；an allowance of $500 on an old car（一輛舊車有500美元的折價）。
