跟學口語:"睡"和"不睡"的表達
我們都知道sleep是“睡覺”的意思，bed是“牀”，可有的時候，sleep卻不一定是“睡覺”，而“牀”也不一定就用bed來表示。有點被我說暈了吧，看看下面幾個短語你就明白了。
1. sleep on something
We asked Judy if she would join our club and she answered that she would sleep on it.
我們問朱迪要不要參加我們的俱樂部，她說她要考慮一下再答覆。
其實sleep on something是“推遲做出決定”的意思，一件事情決定不下來，先把它放下，美美地睡上一覺再說，說不定到時候就有了好主意了呢。再如：
We will have to sleep on your invitation until we know whether we will be free Monday night.這個意思很明顯了吧，就是“我們先看看星期一晚上有沒有空，到時再考慮能否赴你的約。”
2. hit the sack
Hit the sack從字面上看就是“捅一個口袋”，日常表達中的意思卻是“我要去睡覺了”。Sack在這裏是指牀，hit是去牀上睡覺的意思。但是，只有hit the sack可以表示“去睡覺”的意思，其它的，比如說，我要坐下，就不能說 to hit the chair；此外，to hit the sack只能指結束一天工作和學習後晚上去睡覺，午睡也不能用這個短語來表達。
Louis was so tired that he hit the sack soon after supper.
路易斯太累了，所以吃過晚飯就早早上牀睡覺了。
3. to pull an all-nighter
To pull an all-nighter就是我們平常所說的“開夜車” ，Pull在這裏指讓自己受到某種煎熬。因此，這個短語更準確的意思，就是迫使自己整夜唸書。
I have to pull an all-nighter to get this project done.
我得熬夜把這個項目做完。
4. toss and turn
Toss and turn就是“輾轉反側”的意思。
例如《識骨尋蹤》中的一句對白：
Booth: Yeah. I'll go home tonight and I'll lie in bed and I'll toss and I'll turn and I'll beat myself up. And, uh, I'll question everything.
Booth: 是的，我今天晚上要回家，我會躺在牀上輾轉反側，使勁折騰自己。我會質疑一切。
