1. 我做過的最重要的決定 --Describe the most important decision that you have made in your life. Why was it important to you? Use specific examples and details to support your explanation.
The most important decision that I have ever made is when I was 19 years old. I chose chemistry as my
major in my college. It’s of great importance because it determines what I will learn and what I will do the
next four years. What is more, it partly determines my future career for the rest of my life. After four
years of study, I think I made a right decision, because I do like chemistry and have learned a lot of skills. I

I once had a tough experience last semester when I was invited to show my dance with my friends in a

之所以該部分被稱爲“獨立口語”，是因爲題幹只爲我們提供一個topic, 例如”Describe your favorite actor and explain why you like him. Please use specific details and examples in your explanation.”，要求考生在準備15s之後，在45s的時間內完成答題過程。
從答題要求來看，這部分的答案，最需要重視的是“結構”和“細節”。
1. 結構
大家知道，老外講話更習慣於開門見山。與其一推理由之後得出
結論，還不如先給出topic sentence, 然後再詳細解釋。因此，結構方面，建議考生們採取topic sentence + details的方式。
2. 細節
同學們在準備獨立口語題的時候，最頭疼的就是不知道該怎麼闡述自己的理由。其實每個人都能說上一兩句，關鍵是ETS要求”well-developed details”，這就成爲了大家攻破第1,2題的難點。
從學英語開始，我們就練習過很多造句，所以自然養成一句話解決問題的習慣。上課過程中，經常發現同學們喜歡用這樣的句式“觀點概括 + because + 一句理由”。這邊放一個”because”, 自己就把自己限定死了，尤其是後面還高頻出現”(because) I can …”, 這樣想多說一點都不知道該怎麼講。
所以剛開始，還是建議大家先用簡單的句子把整個理由說清楚、說完整，然後我們再考慮怎麼變換成更高級的句式。
下面我主要談一下理由的選擇。因爲發現大家一旦覺得自己是在“答題”，思路就堵住了，不是完全想不出理由，就是想到很多“官方”的話，很大很空，沒什麼實質內容。在選取理由上，我覺得有兩個辦法還是很好用的：一是以小見大；二是個人觀點。
(1) 以小見大
這個是防止“假大空”理由的一個有效辦法。我們在寫論文的時候都有過類似的經驗，要想在1萬字不到的篇幅裏把一個問題闡述清楚，選取的題目肯定不能太大，否則很難駕馭，結果往往是隻能泛泛而談。好比現在要寫一篇關於英語口語的論文，選什麼題目呢？我們心裏面會有很多想法，語音語調、連讀、用詞、習語，什麼都想講，但一定不能什麼都講。
最好的辦法就是隻選1,2個點，深入展開。我就是講連讀的問題，然後慢慢分析。說得細一點，再舉幾個例子，連讀說得好是什麼效果(比如Friends裏的對話)，不好又是個什麼結果(比如傳說中的”not at all”)。有具體的東西，纔不會顯得那麼“官方”，纔好引起共鳴。
獨立口語題也是一樣的道理。不管遇到什麼題目，記住從小的方面來說，才容易講到細節。我們平時在練習的時候，要習慣從小的方面來反映一個較大的問題。舉個例子。如果讓你描述一個人的外貌，時間是45s，怎麼說？你會不會把他從頭到腳都講一遍？不可能，因爲時間不夠。那要不然把五官都說一下？也不好，因爲很難講細，講不出特點。所以，最好就選一個最能表現他特徵的地方，具體描述。
曾經聽到Oprah是這麼講Jony Depp的”In person, it is the energy, it’s captivating. When you look into his eyes, it’s called captivating. You just wanna go：’ You are so good-looking, and captivating.” (當然，我們在答題的時候，要避免出現三次”captivating”的現象……)你看，她就是選了眼睛這麼一點來講，就能給人留下深刻印象，確實Jony Depp的眼睛最吸引人，把這個說透了，其他的相比之下就不是重點了。
我們平時在看電影的時候，也會遇到很多類似的情況。其實電影裏的臺詞還是很有啓發性的。最喜歡When Harry met Sally裏最後的告白，”I love you cuold get cool when it’s 71 degrees out, I love you that it takes an hour to have you order a sandwich，I love you get a little crinkle above your nose when you are looking at me like I’m nuts, l love you that if I spend a day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes, and I love you that you are the last person I wanna talk to before I go to sleep at night.”
你看人家解釋得多好！女生總是會喜歡問“你爲什麼喜歡我啊？”男生要是直接甩出一句“愛是沒有理由的”，肯定沒有上面段說得感人吧。人家就是從生活中點滴的小事入手的，都是很細節的東西，就像誰說過的”it’s those tiny little things that touches us the most”. 前幾天看Meet Joe Black, 裏面女主角的父親在回顧自己的一生時，說人一生怎樣才叫“無憾”呢？”When you can wake up one morning and say：’ I don’t want anything more.’ ”這麼一講，聽的人一下子就懂了。
所以，今後大家練習的時候，要記得說得細一點。不要擔心自己講的例子很弱智，託福獨立口語能說清楚是關鍵，實在不行，結尾昇華一下就是啦。
(2) 個人觀點
正好前面提到了“昇華”結尾，我們引出下一個話題。
其實獨立口語題主要考的是闡述理由的能力，不是你的觀點。觀點鮮明就好，不需要刻意提升到某個高度。有個題同學們始終答不好”When choosing a job, do you prefer the one which offers a high salary, or the one that gives you a sense of self-accomplishment？”看到這題，大家一般的反應是這樣的high salary → 自我否定(要高尚)self-accomplishment→ 想不出理由(因爲不是自己真正的觀點)。
其實，這道題選哪一個都講得起來。我就是選high salary, 那要怎麼解釋？不是說”personal opinion/preference”麼？那你就說”I think the job with a high salary offers me a sense of self-accomplishment ….”然後再具體解釋原因，比如“我覺得高薪工作常與有挑戰性的工作相掛鉤”，或是“薪水高了就能給家人提供更好的生活”，等等。還是那句話，能自圓其說就好。
瞭解了這點，有的題就不是那麼難了。有次問學生”What will you do with a large sum of money？”他說”I will donate all my money to the charity.”然後坦白，其實他不是這麼想的，但是覺得考官會比較“喜歡”這樣的答案。自己都說服不了還怎麼去說服別人啊？現在我們想想這題可以怎麼講？比如用這筆錢去旅遊，可以增長見識；或是帶着家人一起去，那麼又可以有更多的時間一家人在一起，增進感情。當然你要全捐掉也很好，理由也很好想。這時要記住遵循第一點提到的“以小見大”原則，在解釋你爲什麼要捐的時候，想想到底捐哪裏，定一個方向就好，是地震的難民，還是希望工程的孩子，不要指望把愛心散播給到世界上所有需要幫助的人，很難講清楚的。
託福口語日常練習注意
託福口語練習需要在平時積累的。弱勢有機會就通過錄像機、錄音機或光盤，有意識或無意識地跟聽或跟說，也可以上網通過一些通訊工具與北美人士進行交流。雖說新託福口語考試主要考查交際、交流能力，但語音、語調和重音都會對成績的好壞有所印象。
