波音欲將“地溝油”用作航空燃料

Visitors who fly to China on a Boeing jet may soon find that the oil used to cook the spicy street food they sample is the same fuel that powers their journey home.

那些坐着波音公司(Boeing)的客機飛往中國的遊客們,不久後可能就會發現,在中國街頭用來烹製各種香辣美食的油料,已變成爲他們回家提供動力的燃料。

Boeing said in a statement that it has cooked up a plan to use the waste cooking oil from China's restaurants and street vendors, known as "gutter oil", into sustainable aviation biofuel.

波音公司在一份聲明中表示,已擬定一份計劃,準備將“地溝油”用於生產可持續的航空生物燃料。所謂“地溝油”,是指來自中國餐館和街頭攤販的廢棄食用油。

The project is a joint venture between Boeing and Chinese state-owned aerospace manufacturer Comac.

這將是波音公司與中國國企中國商用飛機公司(Comac)間的一個合資項目。

The two companies estimate that 500 million gallons (1.8 billion liters) of biofuel could be made annually in China from used cooking oil, Boeing said.

波音表示,據兩家公司估計,中國的廢棄食用油每年可用於生產5億加侖(合18億升)生物燃料。

From the statement: “Biofuel produced by the China-U.S. Aviation Biofuel Pilot Project will meet international specifications approved in 2011 for jet fuel made from plant oils and animal fats. This type of biofuel has already been used for more than 1,600 commercial flights.

聲明表示:“中美航空生物燃料試點項目(China-U.S. Aviation Biofuel Pilot Project)生產的生物燃料將達到2011年批准通過的國際規格標準。該規格規定了產自植物油和動物脂肪的航空燃料必須滿足的標準。目前,這種類型的生物燃料已經被用於逾1600架次的商用航班。

“Boeing and COMAC are sponsoring the facility, which is called the China-U.S. Aviation Biofuel Pilot Project. It will use a technology developed by Hangzhou Energy & Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. (HEET) to clean contaminants from waste oils and convert it into jet fuel at a rate of 160 gallons (650 liters) per day. The project's goal is to assess the technical feasibility and cost of producing higher volumes of biofuel.

“波音與中國商用飛機公司是這一試點項目的贊助方。該項目將採用杭州能源工程技術有限公司(HEET)開發的技術,清除廢棄食用油中的雜質,以日產量160加侖(合650升)的速度將其轉變爲航空燃料。該項目的目標是評估擴大生物燃料產量的可行性及成本。”
