DEREK: You won't believe what just happened.

KELLY: What?

DEREK: I went down to change some money, right?

KELLY: Yes. We need some. How much did you change?

DEREK: I wanted to change around 5000 dollars. And you know the exchange rate.

KELLY: Yes, it's about 35 pesos for every Taiwan dollar, right?

DEREK: Not today.

KELLY: What do you mean?

DEREK: I went into the bank with my money, and I looked at the exchange first I couldn't believe it. I thought I was reading the board wrong or something.

KELLY: Why?

DEREK: Because the board said 60 pesos for every Taiwan dollar.

KELLY: Sixty? That's too much. How can that be?

DEREK: I thought it was wrong too. It didn't make sense.

KELLY: Just two days ago it was 35. How can it be 60?

DEREK: So, I went up to the teller and started to exchange the money. And it's really gave me sixty pesos for the dollar.

KELLY: That's amazing! Really? How could it change so much in two days?

DEREK: I tried to ask the bank teller why it changed, but she didn't speak English well Idecided to go to the magazine shop. The one around the I bought an American newspaper.

KELLY: What happened?

DEREK: It seems that yesterday the Mexican government declaredit wouldn't pay back the loansit got from the World government declared a default on the loans.

KELLY: That's serious.

DEREK: I know. The economy here is having serious because the government declared a default, the currency value went way down.

KELLY: So now Mexican pesos are worth about half as much.

DEREK: Yes, it's an amazing drop.

KELLY: Wow. I feel sorry for the Mexicans. But it's good for us.

DEREK: Yes, it's very good. We suddenly have twice as much money to spend hotel is now half as expensive as when we got here! Isn't that strange?

KELLY: Yes, and you know what?

DEREK: What?

KELLY: I don't really like this hotel that tonight, now that we are so rich, tonight why don't we stay in the most expensive hotel in town?

DEREK: Why not? We should do it. Because now we can afford it.

STUART: I'm glad I brought my jacket on this trip.

SHARON: Yes, I didn't know Washington, DC got so cold in winter.

STUART: What would you like to do today?

SHARON: I really think we should take a tour of the White House.

STUART: I thought we could go to some of the 't you want to see the museums?

SHARON: Of course. But today I feel like seeing the White should see it first, because it's the most famous historical building here.

STUART: I don't agree. I think the Capitol building is the most okay. If you want to see the White House, we'll go see it.I'm just afraid it will be boring.

SHARON: Boring? How can it be boring? It sounds very interesting to me.

STUART: But it's the White House. The president and his family live won't let us see most of it. Probably we can only see a couple of rooms.

SHARON: No, that's not White House is very big. And there are a lot of historicalexhibits tour will take us through many different rooms. I read about it in the guide.

STUART: Hmm. If that's true, then the security there must be very use it's strange to think they will let people walk around in the White House.

SHARON: I'm sure the security is very ably they will make us walk through metaldetectors like at the airport.

STUART: So I can't take my gun then.

SHARON: Don't always joke like that! You don't have a gun.

STUART: Yes, it's true I don't.

SHARON: You shouldn't say things like that. You could get arrested!

STUART: What? Do you think someone will arrest me for making a joke?Someone will arrest me here at the breakfast table?

SHARON: No. But if you say something like that in the White House, they may take it seriously. Sometimes I think you joke too much.

STUART: I'll be careful. Don't worry. I don't want to get arrested by the how long does the White House tour last?

SHARON: I'm not sure. I think it lasts about one hour.

STUART: Alright. We should take a taxi over there right after breakfast.

SHARON: First I want to look in the travel e they don't have tours in the morning.

STUART: That's a good idea. Do you want some more coffee?

SHARON: No, I'm fine.
