一、while作名詞用，表示“一會兒”“一段時間”
likes to lie down for a while after lunch.
她喜歡午飯後躺一會兒。

二、While作連詞(1)引導時間狀語

句型A：be about to do…when…正要做…這時(發生另一事)
句型B：was/were doing…when…正在…這時(發生另一事)
句型C：had done…when…剛要做…這時(發生另一事)
were about to set out when it began to rain.
我們剛要出發天突然下雨了。
had hardly sat down when his mobile rang.
他剛一坐下手機就響了。
3.I was walking along the bank of the river when I fell into it.
我正沿河岸散步突然掉進水裏。
while後的從句謂語動詞只能是延續性動詞，強調主從句的兩個動詞同時發生;while也可作並列連詞，表示兩個動作的對比，譯爲“而”“然而”。as則表示兩個變化中的動作的同時性，譯爲“一邊…一邊…”。
