1.表示“雖然”時，不要根據漢語習慣，在後面使用連詞 but, 不過有時它可與 yet, still, nevertheless 等副詞連用。如：
他雖然年紀很大了，但還很強壯。
正：Although he is very old, (yet) he is quite strong.
誤：Although he is very old, but he is quite strong.
但是在一定的上下文中，類似下面的 although 與 but 連用的句子是可能的 (注意 but 引出的句子在 although 從句之前) 。如：But Ididn’t know that then, although I learned it later. 但我當時的確不知道此事，儘管後來還是知道了。
2. 不能用於 as though (好像)，even though (即使) 等習語中代替 though, 也不用於讓步狀語的倒裝形式中。
3. 若主從句主語相同，且從句謂語含有動詞be, 可將從句主語和動詞 be 省略。如：Although (he is) quite young, he knows a lot. 雖然很年輕，但他很懂事了。

4. 有時用於主句之後，起補充說明的作用，相當於 however, but。如：He is poor-- although he is well contented. 他很窮，然而卻能知足常樂。
