英文語法難點分析：Besides、But、Except
（1） besides與except
前者表示“除……以外，還有……”；後者表示“從整體中除去……”
這個大家都知道，就不舉例子了。

（2）except與except for
a．除去的和非除去的是同類事物，用except。
例如：
All the essays are well written except Nelson's.
除了尼爾森外，其他人的作文都寫得很好。

Nelson的文章（除去的）和All the essays（非除去的）是同類事物，所以用except。

b．除去的和非除去的不是同類事物，用except for，並且從語氣上通常表示遺憾。
例如：His essay is well written except for a few spelling mistakes.
他的作文寫得不錯，就是有一些拼寫錯誤。

a few spelling mistakes(除去的）和His essay（非除去的）是不同類的事物。

（3）apart from 具有多重意義：既可表示besides，也可以表示exept或exept for，還可以表示without的意思。
例如：
Apart from the problem of money, it will take a lot of time.(=besides)
除了錢的問題外，這件事情還很費時間。

The orphan had no one to take care of him apart from his uncle.(=except)
除了他叔叔，沒人照顧這個孤兒。

He has done good work, apart from a few slight faults.(=except for)
除去一些小失誤，他的工作做得很好。

There can be no knowledge apart from practice.(＝without)
實踐出真知．

（4）excepting =except，但一般用於句首或用於not、without、always等詞之後
例如：
Excepting his brother, they are all right.
除了他弟弟外，他們都是對的。

Everyone, not excepting myself, must share the blame.
每個人，我自己也不例外，都必須分擔咎責。

All of us, without excepting those who know more about the subject, should study.
我們所有人，甚至對這個主題有所瞭解的人，都必須認真學習。

All my brothers come here every day, always excepting the youngest.
除了最小的弟弟總是不來，我所有的兄弟每天都來。

（5）but與except同義，但but多用在every、any、no等和由這些詞構成的複合詞如everything、anywhere、nobody等詞以後及all、none之後。
例如：
The children go to school everyday but Sunday.
除了星期天，孩子們每天都要去上學。

They are all gone but me.
除我之外，他們都去了。

You can get the book anywhere but here.
除了這裏，你可以在任何地方得到這本書。

There is no one but me.
這裏除我之外沒有別人。

Who but George would do such a thing?
除了喬治，誰會做這種事？
