others的用法
1. 從是否確指來看
other和others均表示不確指意義，其中other後可以修飾名詞，而others後不能再接名詞，兩者的關係可描述爲：others=other+複數名詞。如：
He never thinks of others. 他從來不爲別人着想。
I don’t like these books. Show me some others. 我不喜歡這些書，再拿一些給我看。
第一句中的others=other people，意爲“其他人”“別人”，泛指其他所有人;第二句中的others=other books，意爲“其他的書”。
但是，若要表示確指意義，我們就在other和others前面使用定冠詞，同樣地，other後可以修飾名詞，而others後不能再接名詞，兩者的關係仍然存在the others=the other+複數名詞。如：
I started last in the race but I soon caught up with the others. 我在賽跑中最後一個起跑，但不久就趕上了其他人。
句中的the others=the other people，意爲“其他人”，其中的定冠詞特指參加賽跑的所有其他人。
注意：the other後除接複數名詞外，還可以接單數名詞，此時不能用the others代替。如：
This seat is free; the other seat is taken. 這個座位空着，那個座位有人。
2. 常用慣用表達
① other表示“(兩者中的)一個……另一個……”。如：
What I say goes in at one ear and out at the other. 我說話他是一隻耳朵進，另一隻耳朵出。
② others表示“(好幾個中的)一個……其餘都……”。如：
Of their five children, one is in China and the others are abroad. 他們有五個小孩，一個在中國，其餘的都在國外。
注：若爲三者，想要表示“一個……另一個……剩下的一個……”，可用 other [the third...];若爲四者，可用her [a third] other [the fourth, the last]。
③ others表示“一些……其他一些的……”。如：
The search party was divided into two groups. Some went to the right, the others went to the left. 搜尋小組一分爲二，一部分向右，另一部分人向左。
④some…others表示“有的……有的……”。如：
Some people build while others destroy. 有些人建設而另一些人則破壞。
注：該結構也可說成some…some。如：
Some of us agree, some disagree. 我們有些人同意，有些人不同意。
