Elvin：Hey Daphne, this is my friend John. He's visiting Nanjing from New York.

Daphne：Oh, hi, John. Nice to meet you. So, um,are you visiting for business or pleasure?
（你好John，很高興認識你。那你是來工作還是來玩的？）
John：Well,actually, a little of both. I'm meeting some business contacts, but i'm also taking Mandarin classes too.
（嗯，實際上兩者都有吧。我是來見一些業務上的聯繫人，但是我也在學一點中文。）
Daphne：That's cool. How's it going?
（那很好啊，那你學的怎麼樣呢？）
John：Well，I'm finding the classes pretty tough,actually,but i'm having a great time in Nanjing. It's really an amazing city.
（嗯，其實我覺得中文課很難啊，但是我在南京過的很愉快，這個城市很棒。）
Daphne：It sure is. Are you staying for long?
（是啊，沒錯，你打算長住嗎？）
John：Only two weeks unfortunately. I wish I could stay longer but...

Daphne：Well, listen, if you need someone to show you the sights then just call me. I'm having a little get together at my new apartment next week, so if you want to drop by then...

語言剖析

He's visiting Nanjing from New York. 他從紐約來的南京
Hey Daphne, this is my friend John. He's visiting Nanjing from New York.介紹很簡單，但是這裏有一個細節，我們往往會忽略，那就是解釋說明。解釋John是來自紐約，來南京訪問的。這樣方便接下來Daphne就這個信息和John進行對話。如果直接說“Hey Daphne, this is my friend John.”則缺乏這樣的效果了。

you visiting for business or pleasure?
Are you visiting for business or pleasure? 那你是來工作還是來玩的
Business表示工作，商務;pleasure表示享受的，吃喝玩樂 ，意思是旅遊，
business or pleasure 是個固定說法，我們不說business or travel，就像是成語，不能把中間的一個字兩個字改掉。

,actually, a little of both.
Well,actually 嗯，實際上 a little of both 兩者都有一點
atually的意思是事實上，但其實在口語中常常用作口頭禪，和well一樣，表示“嗯嗯”，或者你不知道如何立馬回答對話的問題，用“well”，“actually”來緩衝，想想如何回答，這樣要比尷尬的“嗯~ 餓~ 甚至那個~”要好很多。
這個小技巧在雅思考試和四六級口語考試中很實用哦，當你不知道該說什麼，又不得不說些什麼來避免冷場的時候就可以用“well”，“actually”.

How's it going?是一個簡單但是非常實用的表達，表示進展的如何？ 期末考試了，問同學複習的怎麼樣啦，你可以說How's it going?問同事工作進展的怎樣了，你也可以說How's it going?

I'm finding the classes pretty tough. 我覺得中文課很難
當你有新的嘗試，新的體驗時，是一個簡單但是非常實用的表達，表示進展的如何？I'm finding the classes pretty tough，我覺得中文課好難學呀！
我覺得南京是一個很棒的城市，可以說I'm finding Nanjing amazing；我覺得我的新工作非常有意思，I am finding my new job interesting.

7. I'm having a little get together at my new apartment next week.
a little get together 一個小聚會
little get together,通常指的是女生的小聚會，especially for girls.如果是男生的話可以用have some friends over ，下週我們要在KTV搞個聚會怎麼說呢？I’m having some friends over in KTV next week！是不是表達瞬間高大上了很多？

記下電話號碼一般不用write down，用take down，也可以用I want to get your number，或者could you give me your number？

9.文化1：隱私
結識新朋友，互相介紹、寒暄的內容其實大同小異。可以準備一些“罐頭”用語，以備不時之需。今天的對話內容就是很好的例子。不過和美國人接觸時，最好避免一些他們認爲比較私人或敏感的話題，比如年齡、金錢、種族等。
