er party

Elvin was invited to join David's dinner party. How did he exchange greetings and make small talk with David? What present did he give?

David:Elvin,you made it!
(Elvin,
Elvin:I made it! Thank you so much for having me. Here's a little something for the wine rack.
David:Oh! Elvin, you shouldn't have! Please, leave your shoes on. Let me take your jackets. You're the first set of guests to arrive!
Elvin:David, I love what you've done with the place.
(David,
David:Thanks! I can't take credit for it though. It was all Olivia.
Elvin:She's got great taste! Where is she?
David:She's upstairs getting ready. We'll give you the Grand Tour when she's here. But first can I offer you a beer? Wine?
Elvin:I'm driving, just a soda for me please.
David:How about some hors d'oeuvres? We had a catering company make us a couple of platters. They're delicious!
Elvin:How could I resist?

1. you make it
you make it 你到啦!
I’m sick. I don’t think I can make it to work today.
Traffic is terrible today. I don’t think I’ll make it on time.

2. Thank you so much for having me. Here’s a little something for the wine rack.
Thank you so much for having me.
Here’s a little something for the wine rack.

When invited to a home dinner party, it's common courtesy to bring a small gift to show appreciation for the hosts. The most common gifts include wine, flower, cheese or dessert, things that guests could all enjoy at the party.

4. 客套話
Elvin you shouldn’t have! 指的是Oh ,Elvin you shouldn’t have brought the wine here.
leave your shoes on. Let me take your jackets.

5. You’re the first set of guests to arrive!
You’re the first set of guests to arrive!
Set我們的印象裏好像只有設置的意思,其實set有很多意思,在這句話中set是名詞形式,表示group,一羣人,時尚一族叫做the smart set 殺馬特羣體;set還可以表示一套,一副,如a set of six chairs 六把成套的椅子;一副象棋,a chess set

5. take credit for it
take credit for it 表示因某事而受到讚揚
I can’t take all the credit for today’s game: I’ve got a great team behind me.

6. She’s got great taste!
She’s got great taste!
Wow, your mom has great taste in music!

7. How could I resist?
How could I resist?
