口語課堂第174期:我受不了這裏夏天的炎熱
大家好，歡迎來到《可可口語課堂》。今天我們要學習兩個口語短語，首先來聽一個句子：
This cloth is designed to stand up to a lot of wear and tear.
先不急着聽懂意思，我們來了解一下stand up to，stand up表示站立，“站立”給人的感覺就是挺直腰板，stand up to與這種狀態也有關聯，因爲當你很勇敢的時候，你的腰板挺得很直。Stand up to表示反抗。
It was brave of her to stand up to those bullies.
她挺身反抗那些恃強欺弱的人，真勇敢。
It is +adj. +sb. +to do sth. 是一個固定結構，用來形容某人幹某件事如何如何。
提到反抗的時候，我們也該常常想到單詞bully，做名詞表示“欺凌弱小者；土霸”，作動詞表示 “欺負，恐嚇”。
再來聽一遍這個句子
If the man tries to bully you, stand up to him.
如果那人想欺侮你，堅決和他鬥。
Bully在第一個例句中用作名詞表示“欺凌弱小者”，在這裏用作動詞，表示“欺侮”。
He'll respect you more if you stand up to him.
如果你勇敢地面對他,他會更加尊敬你。
Stand up to表示反抗，稍微聯繫一下，其實它還可以表示“經得住”，比如說：
I can't stand up to the heat in summer here.
我受不了這裏夏天的炎熱。
Can he stand up to any serious test?
他能經受住任何嚴峻的考驗嗎?
Such people cannot stand up to any serious test.
這樣的人不能勇敢地面對任何嚴峻的考驗。
Such people我想可能是心理素質不高、很脆弱、畏懼困難的人。
This cloth is designed to stand up to a lot of wear and tear.
這個句子在開頭就提到了，您現在能聽懂一般，這種布料能經得起什麼呢？Wear and tear就是我們這一小節要學習的短語。Wear常見意思是“穿戴”，東西穿戴久了就會磨損，wear還可以表示“磨損”，tear表示撕破。這兩個單詞weear and tear放在一起就是“損壞，磨損”的意思。

張小泉刀剪經久耐用。
上小學時我撿到一把剪刀，上面寫着張小泉，我還好奇，我們班似乎沒有叫做張小泉的學生，後來才知道它是剪刀的一種品牌。

這些鞋可以經得起一兩年的磨損。
“經得起”在上一小節中我們學過，可以用stand up to來表示，這裏的withstand同樣表示“經得起”。
下面我們來聽一個小對話：
——Why do you always put on slippers when you go into your apartment? 爲什麼你老是一進公寓就穿上拖鞋？——It saves wear and tear on the carpet. 因爲拖鞋不磨損地毯。
