Brie Larson promised to ‘break the internet’ on Wednesday and she’s surely about to do so as brand new images for the upcoming Captain Marvel have dropped. Standing in an epic warrior pose, the images are part of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, who spoke to Brie about the groundbreaking role.

‘She can’t help but be herself,’ she said of the female superhero, also known as Carol Danvers. ‘She can be aggressive, and she can have a temper, and she can be a little invasive and in your face.

‘She’s also quick to jump to things, which makes her amazing in battle because she’s the first one out there and doesn’t always wait for orders. But the [not] waiting for orders is, to some, a character flaw.’

Details on the forthcoming female-fronted superhero film have been few and far between but viewers got their first teaser for the shiny new female superhero in a post-credits scene at the end of Avengers: Infinity back in April. Although Brie wasn’t seen in character, it did show the Captain Marvel insignia, serving as a glimpse of the new chapter for the MCU.

Brie sent Marvel fans into an excitable frenzy on Tuesday evening when she sent a a tweet to Entertainment Weekly that said: ‘Hey @EW I’m bored. Wanna break the Internet tomorrow?’ Fuelling the excitement, EW replied: ‘Yes! Meet us here at noon ET. We’ve got something Marvel-ous in mind,’ to which Brie confirmed: ‘It’s a DATE!’ Captain Marvel will hit cinemas on 8 March 2019.
