今天，我們來主攻：Instead of... 的活用

（用……）代替……，是……而不是……，（用……）而不用……

1. Instead of ＋名詞，人稱代詞

Will you go to the party instead of me? 你替我赴宴好嗎？

Shall we have fish instead of meat today? 今天我們不吃肉吃魚好嗎？

Give me this instead of that. 給我這個，不要那個。

I would recommend that you buy a DVD player instead of a VCR. 我建議你買一臺DVD機而不是錄像機。

2. Instead of ＋形容詞（比較級），副詞

Taking exercise every day makes him look younger instead of older. 每天鍛鍊身體使他看起來年輕而不顯老。

He walks slowly instead of quickly. 他走路緩慢，而不快速。

3. Instead of ＋動名詞
We went to the music class instead of attending the English lesson. 我們去上了音樂課而沒去上英語課。

He has been playing all afternoon instead of getting on with his work. 他整個下午一直在玩，沒有繼續工作。

4. Instead of ＋介詞短語
We shall have tea in the garden instead of in the house. 我們將在花園裏用茶, 而不在室內用。

Let's talk outside instead of in the office. 我們還是出去談，不要在辦公室談。

The man I'm madly in love with chose that ugly old woman instead of me. It pissed me off. 我發瘋地愛着的那個男人竟然選擇了那個醜醜的老女人，而不是我。沒把我氣瘋過去。
