名詞所有格與of詞組的相似和不同

英語學習中，很多人常用”的”來學習名詞屬格，這也不失爲一種理解方式。但是我們知道，英語中，除了名詞屬格-’s表示“的”，of詞組同樣也可以。那麼，這兩者之間有什麼異同點呢？

一、相同點：

1.表示所有關係：the body of the dog=the dog’s body

2.表示主謂關係：the arrival of my father=my father’s arrival

3.表示動賓關係：the defeat of the enemy=the enemy’s defeat

4.表示來源：the law of Newton= the law developed by Newton

 二、不同點：

1.表示事物類別或屬性，只能用名詞屬格：men’s shoes男鞋

2.固定習語中，只能用名詞屬格：

  a bird’s-eye view鳥瞰         a wolf in sheep’s clothing披着羊皮的狼

  a hair’s breadth間不容髮     at a stone’s throw 一步之遙

3.帶有較長修飾語的名詞，只能用of詞組：

  the suggestions of the teachers given at the parents’ meeting

4.“the +形容詞”式的名詞，只能用of詞組：

   the life of the poor窮人的生活    

由此看來，儘管名詞屬格和of-詞組有很多共性，在很多情況下，兩者可以通用，但它們之間仍存在着差異。我們需要在明確兩者共性的基礎上，區分個性，具體語境具體分析。
