中國人最易誤解的話第13期:你的鼻子是臘制的嗎?

（誤譯）她的鼻子是臘制的義鼻。
（正譯）她沒有主見。
典故：
漢語中，我們要說一個人“沒有主見”時，常說他“耳根子軟”，你知道英語裏是怎麼說的嗎？ 英語中把“耳朵”和“鼻子”錯位了，說成a nose of wax。Are you a nose of wax?（你是一個沒有主見的人嗎？）
《牛津英語大詞典》把a nose of wax解釋爲a person easily influenced, one of a weak character（無主見的人、易受擺佈的人）。早在1532年，這個短語就出現在書面用語中。現在，這個短語不太常用，通常只有在最高法院的稱述中才能聽到這個短語。
有關nose的短語還有很多，例如：nose to nose（面對面）、get up one's nose（使某人非常生氣）、keep one's nose clean（行爲檢點，不做違法的事）。
有主見：
