as good as gold 是習語，雖然有很多as... as... 形式的詞組可以直譯，例如as... as ever (always) 可直譯爲“與往常一樣......”，但 as good as gold 則有特殊的意義（“很乖”），不能按字面直譯。

“乖”的內涵和引申：

1. clever adj. 聰明的；機靈的；熟練的

Even the media occasionally try to trick the public with a clever April Fool story.
大衆媒體偶爾也會以巧妙的愚人節故事來愚弄公衆。

If such a clever person becomes arrogant or sarcastic, however, their words can hurt you.
如果這樣聰明的人變得傲慢和自大，他們就可能會傷害到你。

2. alert vt. 使警覺，使意識到；警告
adj. 警惕的，警覺的；留心的
n. 警報；警戒，警惕

那消息太好了，很難相信是真的。

4. perverse 乖張的，倔強的違反常情的

There could be perverse results, too.
這樣做確實也可能產生荒唐的結果。

America's health-care system is a nightmare of perverse incentives.
美國的醫療保健系統具有反動力。

5. shrewd adj. 精明的；狡猾的；機靈的
n. 精明（的人）；機靈（的人）

Yet in many respects it was a shrewd move.
然而，在很多方面，荷蘭都有着良好的發展。

He was too shrewd to believe that it must exist.
他到是不至於愚蠢到相信那一定會存在。
