英語詞彙的學習不僅僅是背單詞，瞭解單個意思就結束了。因爲在不同的語境下面，它們的表達意思是不同的。短語詞組的積累也是不可缺少的，像candy這個詞大部分人都會說是糖果的意思，但在不同的習慣語下面是不一樣的意思，你知道嗎?
eye candy
candy是一種能令人開心、心情愉悅的東西，“給眼睛看的糖果” eye candy 代表的是“華而不實的人(或物)”，someone or something that is attractive but not very interesting or useful.
舉個例子
Most of the images on the website are not more than eye candy.
網頁上大多數雖然吸引眼球，卻毫無意義。
還有一個與eye candy很像的習慣用語：arm candy，指的是 a very attractive person taken by another person to a social event in order to impress other people，(在社交場合充當別人侶伴的)俊男美女。
candy+身體器官組成的習慣用語還有一個，是 candy-ass，這個詞指的是 a person who is not brave，膽小鬼。

like a kid in a candy store “像個在糖果店的小孩”。這個短語的引申意思其實是指某人“對某件事十分興奮，以致於行爲顯得孩子氣”。

candy coat
candy coat 的意思很容易猜測，正是“塗上糖衣”，to cover something with a thin hard layer of sugar.

I candy coated the nuts as they taste so much better that way.
我在堅果上塗了糖衣，因爲這樣吃起來味道更好。
除了“塗上糖衣”這個意思之外，candy coat還有另一層意思是“美化，粉飾”，to intentionally describe something in a way that makes it seem less unpleasant or less serious than it really is.

She is too clear-eyed about the ways of the world to candy-coat her stories.
她對世界的運作方式看得太清楚了，不會粉飾她的故事。
candy coat一般是美式英語中的用法，也可以寫作candy-coat，而英式英語中一般使用sugarcoat或sugar-coat.
