根據全國老齡工作委員會(the China National Committee On Aging)的數據來看，到2053年，中國60歲及以上的老人數量預計 會從目前的1.85億一躍變爲4.87億，或者說是佔總人口的35%。擴 張的比例是由於壽命的增加和計劃生育政策(family planning policies) 限制大部分城市家庭只生一個孩子。快速老齡化對社會和經濟穩定 造成了嚴重威脅。
