1.“go to the movies”表示“去看電影”，相當於“go to a movie”，“see a movie”，“see a film”或者“go to the cinema”等。
2.“scare sb. half to death”的意思是“把某人嚇得半死”，是由“scare death”變化過來的。類似的詞組還有：be scared to death（嚇得要死），be frightened to death（嚇得要死），be bored to death（煩得要死）。

好萊塢點滴

1911年，好萊塢第一個電影製片廠內斯特影片公司開業。
1923年，今天成爲好萊塢象徵之一的白色大宇HOLLYWOOD被樹立在好萊塢後的山坡上。
1929年5月1 6日，奧斯卡金像獎第一次被頒發，當時的門票是10美元，一共有250人蔘加。
1947年1月22日，美國的商業電視臺開始進入好萊鳩。同年12月，好萊塢第一次爲電視拍電影。
1958年，始建好萊塢著名的星光大道（Walk of Fame）。1960年2月9日，女演員喬安妮·伍德沃德得到了第一顆星的殊榮。
1985年，好萊塢的商業和娛樂區被正式列入美國受保護的歷史性建築名單。
1999年6月，洛杉磯的地鐵終於開到了好萊塢。
