《美食祈禱和戀愛》Chapter 75 (165):願望成真
I wait for a pause in Ketut's predictions, then interrupt to remind him that I had been here to see him already, two years ago.
我等待賴爺停止預言，而後打斷他，讓他知道兩年前我來過這裏看他。He looks puzzled. "Not first time in Bali?"
他迷惑不解。“不是頭一次來巴厘島？”"No, sir."
“不是。”
He thinks hard. "You girl from California?"
他絞盡腦汁想。“你是加州來的姑娘？”"No," I say, my spirits tumbling deeper. "I'm the girl from New York."
“不是，"我有些喪氣地說，"我是紐約來的姑娘。”Ketut says to me (and I'm not sure what this has to do with anything), "I am not so handsome anymore, lost many teeth. Maybe I will go to dentist someday, get new teeth. But too afraid of dentist."
賴爺對我說（我不曉得這和任何事有哪門子關係）：“我不再英俊，掉很多牙。或許哪天該去看牙醫，弄新牙齒。但我怕牙醫。”He opens his deforested mouth and shows me the damage. Indeed, he has lost most of his teeth on the left side of his mouth and on the right side it's all broken, hurtful-looking yellow stubs. He fell down, he tells me. That's how his teeth got knocked out.
他張開荒蕪的嘴巴，展現其損害。沒錯，他的嘴裏左側的牙齒缺了大半，右側全部碎裂，看來像是有害的黃色殘牙。他說自己摔了跤，因此牙齒全毀。I tell him I'm sorry to hear it, then try again, speaking slowly. "I don't think you remember me, Ketut. I was here two years ago with an American Yoga teacher, a woman who lived in Bali for many years."
我跟他說得悉此事甚感難過，而後我又試了一次，放慢速度說。“我想你不記得我了，賴爺。兩年前我跟一位美國瑜伽老師來過這裏，她在巴厘島住過多年。”He smiles, elated. "I know Ann Barros!"
他高興地微笑。“我認識芭洛絲（AnnBarros）！”"That's right. Ann Barros is the Yoga teacher's name. But I'm Liz. I came here asking for your help once because I wanted to get closer to God. You drew me a magic picture."
“沒錯。芭洛絲正是這位瑜伽老師的名字。我是小莉。我曾來請你幫忙，因爲我想更接近神。你畫了張魔法圖給我。”He shrugs amiably, couldn't be less concerned. "Don't remember," he says.
他和藹地聳聳肩，漫不經心地說：“不記得了。”
