The Gini coefficient, an index reflecting the rich-poor gap, reached 0.474 in China in 2012，the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Friday.
But there are still doubts whether the index has accurately reflected the widening social disparity in the country. The Gini coefficient provided by the NBS was much lower than a result from a private survey by Chengdu's Southwestern University of Finance and Economics published last December, which put the country's Gini coefficient at 0.61 in 2010.
國家統計局上週五首次公佈的基尼係數顯示，2012年基尼係數爲0.474。基尼係數是衡量貧富差距的重要指標。
但是，仍然有很多人質疑，0.474這個指標是否能準確反映日益擴大的貧富差距。通過民間調查，西南財經大學去年12月公佈了2010年的基尼係數，結果顯示，2010年中國家庭的基尼係數爲0.61，國家統計局公佈的數據有不小差距。

“rich-poor gap”即爲貧富差距的意思，類似的表達還有：rich-poor polarization 貧富分化、rich-poor disparity 貧富差異、wealth gap 貧富差距等。“Gini coefficient”解釋爲基尼係數，爲意大利經濟學家基尼於1922年提出的，是國際上用來綜合考察居民內部收入分配差異狀況的一個重要分析指標。
